How it works

Five layers of data. One clear prediction.

No black box, no vague "our algorithm says". Here is exactly what goes into every football, tennis and basketball prediction we publish - and what happens to it afterwards.

What SharpTips does

SharpTips is a sports prediction service. Every day we go through the upcoming fixtures in football, tennis and basketball, gather the data that matters for each match, and publish a small number of clearly named picks with the reasoning behind them.

We are not a bookmaker and we never take bets. What you pay for is the analysis: the hours of reading form tables, injury lists and odds movements, done for you and summarised in a few lines you can check in a minute.

The five layers behind every sports prediction

Each layer answers a different question. A pick is published only when they add up to a concrete case.

  1. 01

    Form & recent results

We start with what each team or player has actually done lately - not only whether they won, but who they played, where, and by what margin. Home and away records are read separately, because many sides are a different team on the road.

  2. 02

    Head-to-head, table & season stats

How these two have matched up before, where each sits in the table and what they still play for, plus season statistics such as goals scored and conceded, clean sheets or points per game. Recent seasons weigh more than old ones.

  3. 03

    Injuries & line-ups

A prediction made without knowing who plays is a guess. We check the injury and suspension lists and, when they are available, the expected line-ups - a missing striker or first-choice goalkeeper changes the picture for goals markets in particular.

  4. 04

    Bookmaker odds

Bookmaker prices already contain a great deal of information. We use them as the starting point and compare them with the probability our own reading suggests. A pick is only worth publishing where the data gives a concrete reason behind it.

  5. 05

    Press & team news

Numbers lag behind events. Before each prediction, recent reporting on both sides is checked for anything the statistics cannot show yet - a late injury, planned rotation before a European night, a new manager. If nothing reliable is found, nothing is assumed.

  6. One clear prediction

Up to three named picks per match, each with odds and a confidence level - published before kick-off, settled from the final score. Selections are written in full, exactly as they appear on a betting slip - "Arsenal to win", "Over 2.5 goals", "Both teams to score".

From kick-off countdown to final result

48-12 hours before kick-off

The prediction is published

The biggest matches are analysed up to two days ahead, the rest from 24 hours before. Nothing is published later than 12 hours before kick-off.

Frequently asked questions

Do you guarantee winning predictions?

No, and we are direct about that. A prediction expresses a statistical probability based on the data available, not a certainty. Anyone promising guaranteed winnings is not being straight with you - sport is genuinely unpredictable.

How is each prediction made?

Every prediction combines five layers of data: recent form and results, head-to-head record with league table and season statistics, injuries and line-ups, bookmaker odds, and a check of current team news. The layers are combined into up to three clearly named picks per match, each with a confidence level.

When are predictions published?

Between 48 and 12 hours before kick-off. The biggest matches are published up to two days ahead; other matches from 24 hours before. We do not publish a pre-match prediction later than 12 hours before the start.

How many predictions do you publish each day?

We analyse up to around 30 matches a day across football, tennis and basketball, with up to three picks per match. We prefer fewer, better-supported picks to a long list - where the data is thin, we publish nothing for that match.

What do Low, Medium and High confidence mean?

Confidence describes how strongly the data supports a pick, not a promise about the outcome. High means several layers point the same way; Low means the case is thinner or the price is longer. You can see how each confidence level has actually performed on the Track Record page.

How is your track record verified?

Every pick is saved with a timestamp before kick-off and settled automatically from the final score. Results are never edited or removed afterwards, and the full list - wins and losses - is public on the Track Record page.

Which sports and competitions do you cover?

Football, tennis and basketball, including the Premier League, Champions League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, ATP and WTA tournaments, the NBA and the EuroLeague, plus many more competitions listed on the All Sports page.

Do you accept bets or hold my money?

No. SharpTips is a subscription analysis service. We do not operate as a bookmaker, do not accept wagers and are not affiliated with any betting operator. Any betting you choose to do happens elsewhere, entirely at your own discretion.

What can I see for free?

Each day a few predictions are fully open to everyone, along with the live scores, the news section and the complete track record. A subscription unlocks every prediction, the full analysis, live suggestions, the prediction generator and saved selections.

Can I follow just one sport?

Yes. The Single Sport plan covers whichever one of football, tennis or basketball you follow, at a lower price than the All Sports plan. You can pay for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, with a lower monthly price on longer periods.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes, at any time from your account. When you turn automatic renewal off, your access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for and you are not charged again.

Who is SharpTips for?

Adults aged 18 or over who want a data-led second opinion before they bet. If gambling stops being fun or you are betting more than you can afford, please stop and seek support - BeGambleAware.org offers free, confidential help.
